When I was growing up we thought the atom was the smallest unit of matter possible. Now we know that the atom is made up of many parts and physicists keep finding new and smaller particles all the time. At the center of the atom is a nucleus; a number of rings (the number depends on which element is under consideration) encircle the nucleus with varying numbers of protons, electrons and neutrons, spinning and orbiting at the speed of light for as long as that atom exists. A closer look at an atom reveals that only a very small part of it is actually something or "matter." If the protons, electrons and neutrons were compressed together they would occupy only a tiny percentage of the actual volume of the atom. So we must conclude that what we call "matter" is really mostly space and not matter at all. Every atom in a brick or a stone is mostly space with protons, electrons and neutrons whirling around, so the brick or stone is not at all the solid material we have been taught to believe that it is. It is just a tiny little bit of physical material suspended in whirling atoms. So it follows that our bodies - and everything else that looks solid to us - are really nearly 100% space. And, here's the kicker: these spinning particles can be affected by our thoughts!
Now the quantum physicists are telling us that the basic building blocks of our bodies - and everything else in the Universe - are not just particles. They are also waves. And they are particles and waves both at the same time. But not exactly at the same time. What is most astounding is that whether one of these units behaves as a wave or particle depends on which one the observer expects to see, on whether wave-observing equipment or particle-observing equipment is used. This has been proven time and again in quantum physics laboratories. When observers expect to see a particle, it behaves like a particle. And when they expect to see it as a wave, it behaves like a wave. Called Quantum Mechanics, this theory is directly opposite to the traditional Newtonian physics that was commonly accepted by Western science for three centuries. It has taken nearly seventy years for quantum physics to even begin to become part of our cultural rationale.
So what does this mean to those of us who are not interested in equations and experiments? The inescapable conclusion is that these particle-waves are affected by the thoughts of the scientists. Since all matter is made up of atoms that have particles as their building blocks, it follows that we can affect physical things in our universe by what we think. It means that every atom in every molecule in every cell in every tissue in every organ in every system in your magnificent body is affected by your thoughts and emotions. Not only that, small particles of every atom in every cell in our bodies are continually leaving the atoms and going back to the Source of all life, the Creator, God/dess, etc. They go to become infused with the Unconditional Love that is the essence of this Supreme Being and bring it back to us. This is one way that Spirit is trying to communicate with us and tell us that we, too, are part of that Unconditional Love, that it is part of us, and it is ours for the taking. We can choose to accept that love and bring it into our hearts, minds and bodies. But more commonly we block it out because we are so full of fear and anger and negativity and the old habits of our past history that there is no place in our lives for this miracle. We have a choice. We can release the old negative stuff or we can hang on to it. We can choose to allow the old garbage to deflect the particles of love as they return to our cells or we can let the love fill us with the Light. I like to ask Spirit to help me to become "a vibrating manifestation of Unconditional Love," for there is surely no higher way to be. And this is what the Great Spirit would like for us to be. This is what we will eventually become after we have learned all those lessons, remembered that that is who we really are, and we have reunited with the Creator.
